Translation is required as a compulsory course for English majors inmany colleges and universities in China. In the era of globalization andinformationalization, China is in an urgent need of good translators atall-levels. It is translation teaching that shoulders the task.In the past30years since the opening to the outside world, by takingadvantage of the western translation theories, the translation teaching inChina has made big progress. However, in China, for the givencharacteristics of the HTVE students, translation is still one big problemin their English study. Therefore HTVE students’ translation skills are aquestion that deserves exploring.So far, little has been known what skills should be trained for theseEnglish majors and what methodology to be adopted to improve theirTranslation skills. The responsibility of translation teaching in HTVE isto train their ability to translation and build up the practical translationconcept. Adopting the proper methodology and paying attention to theprocess is the key to achieve this goal, therefore to improve the quality oftranslation teaching in HTVE.The thesis gives a review of the establishment and development ofHVTE in China, and the achievements the translation teaching ingraduate universities made and the development of translation teachingabroad. With the analysis, it depicts that the current situation, especiallythe problems in HVTE translation teaching, and it comes with thesuggestions. It aims at reflecting the past, analyzing the present, andexpecting the future, in order to promote the translation teaching inHTVE in our country properly.
