The culture of customs is a kind of very significant cultural legacy. In the colorfullegacies of China, the traditional festivals have the unique quality which many othercultural legacies don’t possess. Through the way of celebrations and extensiveparticipations of the people, these festivals form a system of beliefs and values, whichdeserve our special attention when we set up the harmony society.Enshi ‘Nver Hui’ is a representative custom of Tujia nationality. It is an uniquefolk custom in which the young men and women choose a mate voluntarily andcollectively. This thesis mainly studies the Enshi ‘Nver Hui’. At the same time,combining the relative literature review and the field researches, the author clearlyelaborates the generation and development this custom. By analyzing the inheritance ofthe custom, the author also discusses the defects of it, and gives some valuablesuggestions.The whole paper can be divided into five parts. The fist part is the introduction. Itcontains the reasons why the author chooses this subject, the significance and currentresearching situation of the relative cultures. The fist chapter describes the environmentand the forms of ‘Nver Hui’, and explores the history and the cultural background ofthe custom. The second chapter analyzes the inheriting forms of the custom. The thirdchapter studies the achievements of the inheritance. The fourth chapter is rethinking thecustom, points out the flaws and gives suggestions.
