This translation task provided by my supervisor, Professor Cui Yanhu, is anacademic works whose name is “The Genealogical Construction of the KyrgyzRepublic”. This book is composed of five chapters: Factionalism and the “TulipRevolution”; The Ideologies of Kinship; Identity, History and GenealogicalImagination: the Construction of Relatedness; Obligation and the Management ofShame; Ethnogenesis and the Construction of Ethnic Identities. This book had aprofound exploration of the existence and development of tribalism by employing thegenealogy of Kyrgyz Republic as the research method, which could enable us to havea better understanding of tribe and its function in Central Asia. The translation task mentioned above improved the author’s proficiency in theutilization of translation skills, and the author’s flexibility in coping with thedifferences between two languages. However, there are many problems in thetranslated work, of which inflexible expression, structural confusion and vaguemeanings are the main three aspects. These problems inevitably lessened thereadability and acceptability of the translated work. Therefore, this translation reportis aimed at finding out the reasons for these problems and exploring the strategies andmeans for the avoidance of these problems. In this translation report, the reasons for the low readability and acceptability ofthe translated work are put forward by the author’s summarization to the existingproblems. The reasons include three points, the first is the author’s direct transfer oforiginal sentence structure into the translated work, and the second is the author’s lackof recognition of different expressions between two languages, and the last is theauthor’s literal understanding to the meaning of the words. Combing with such threereasons and the practical experience in the process of translation, the author putforward the strategies and means to avoid the emergence of those problems. At last, the author summarizes the experiences learned from this translation project as well assome shortcomings that needed to be avoided..
