Since the Ming and Qing dynasty, the market center in Ting and Han Basin had transferred from Tingzhou to Chouzhou. However, Shantou played a much more crucial role in economy instead of Chouzhou after it became a port city and gradually turned out to be a new market center. This thesis, chose the space of Ting and Han Basin, paid special attention to the transactions, will concern the change of the local society from1860to1930. In addition, some thinking will be put forward over the interaction between the Chaozhou tribe and the Hakka tribe. On the basis of history, this thesis, which learn several ways from historical anthropology will consider the tribal interaction and the change of society within the research framework of integral history. By studying the diachronic of the Ting and Han Basin, it can not only understand the internal power of the local society and how it developed, while also reveal the tribal interaction among the people in this area and the social visage at that moment. Since the opening of Shantou port, the pattern of material circulation had changed a lot because of the stimulation of business and the application of modern transportation. As a result, most of the local industry had to be either closed or improved, which made the industry pattern different in the end. During this period, some businessmen who came from Hakka tribe settled down in Chouzhou or in Shantou. On the other hand, they devoted themselves to the local infrastructure, such as purchasing the estates, setting up halls, getting in touch with villagers, building schools, mending the railway, running hotels, handling newspaper etc. What they done had a great influence on the local society. From the study of this60-year development after Shantou opened its port, it is significant to find out that the exchange of goods done in the Ting and Han areas was not only a kind of business between the region and the coastland, but also promoted the communication and interaction about information and culture for them. At last, great change of the society had taken place.
