Research Into Western Xia Porcelains Preserved In Gansu Provincial Museum

In this paper, on the basis of systematically analyzes about porcelains of theWestern Xia kingdom which preserved in each museum of Gansu province, authormade classification and research on the information of collected porcelain, discussedthe summary，characteristics, grains of the Western Xia Porcelains which preserved inGansu Provincial Museum and conditions about the kiln. Also compared the Taerwankiln of Wuwei and Lingwu kiln of Ningxia. Finally,author has got some ideas. Evento the extent that author made comprehensive research，statistics and explanationabout character on the Western Xia porcelains in this paper.The article has six parts, they are introduction, circumstances for Western Xiaporcelains unearthed in Gansu, species and grains of porcelains, characters on theporcelains, studies the relative problems for the sites of kilns and Lingwu kiln ofNingxia, and the epilogue.First, the introduction elaborates the reason and the significance of the subject,and then, introduce the research current situation of Western Xia porcelains, also liststhe research ideas and methods.In the first chapter, introduces the economic situation, handicraft industrydevelopment of Gansu during the period of Western Xia kingdom, gives a few wordsof Western Xia porcelain unearthed situation in recent years, and makes analyticalstudy about the character of porcelains.In the second chapter, author divides the kinds of Western Xia porcelain into fivecategories, and classifies decorative techniques and ornamentation of porcelain.Ultimately, sums up several features and characteristics of porcelain on the basis ofcomparison and research.In the third chapter, focuses on the characters of porcelains, and discoursesseparately with regard to Chinese character and Tangut on the porcelains.In the fourth chapter, contrasts and discourses the difference about Taerwan kilnof Wuwei and Lingwu kiln of Ningxia on the period, kiln system, implements, firingtechnics and decoration techniques.The last chapter is the conclusion of the article, expounds history culturereflected by Western Xia porcelains. To sums up, Western Xia Porcelains which preserved in Gansu Provincial Museum are affected by Central plains culture,nomadic culture, Buddhism and Taoism culture, reflects the social life customs,religious belief of Western Xia kingdom. Additionally, reflects the esthetic sentimentof people and social formation under the rule of northwest minority regime.
