Lacquer art was known as the "golden period" of the lacquer history in Qin and Han Dynasty. From the influence of lacquer, artistic achievement, craft production level and the coverage of daily life etc., it is no doubt that the lacquer played the most important role in the history of ancient China. The lacquer art of Qin and Han Dynasty were considered as outstanding traditional art in China, and played a huge positive impact on the transmission and dissemination of Chinese culture. During tne Qin and Han period, Gansu and Ningxia were the stronghold in the ancient Silk Road. There were a large number of lacquer which had been left with words and physical information, and the places were famous for its various category, beautiful ornate decoration, lightweight and elegant shape.This study focused on discussing the lacquar art of Gansu, Ningxia areas during ancient Qin and Han dynasties, pointing to the style and features on decoration in the period. Lacquer art was rooted in Chinese long traditional history, fullfilling with strong Chinese characteristics, containing deep theory on aesthetics. Through the study, Chinese traditional culture will be transmitted and the patriotic spirit will be inspired. Meanwhile, it is positive to enhance self-confidence and national pride of our nation.First of all, this paper does a comprehensive overview to the background of lacquer's production in Gansu, Ningxia areas during the ancient Qin and Han dynasties, which includes the background on history and geography, social thought, science and technology in that period. Besides, the paper discusses the original reason of the popularity of lacquar in the time.Secondly, this paper presents the type and shape of lacquer in the period and they are divided into three categories from the use of functions. Combined with the analysis of the regional lacquer which have been unearthed during this period, the study about the article feature will be deeper.The last but not the least, this paper focuses on the style and features on decoration in the period. Based on the regional lacquer unearthed in the areas, the paper analyzes the unique characteristics of lacquer Art, including decorative themes, types, forms, techniques and colors from the design studies, design arts and modeling semantics.Finally, through the study, the paper reaches a conclusion that the lacquer art is a kind of co-crystal of various cases of, and other multiple cultural factors. What's more, it notes that the lacquer art of Gansu, Ningxia in Qin and Han dynasties was influenced by Confucianism, Taoism and Chu culture. Its design pay more attention to the practicability, focusing on functional objects, while embodies the charm of Chu culture. The design has a close connection with life, and it has achieved the perfect combination of practicability and article taste.
