Research Of The Information In The Parentheses Of Noun Words Of Modern Chinese Dictionary(Sixth Edition)

The information in the parentheses refers to the information within the parentheses inone lexicon paraphrase of the noun words in the Dictionary of Modern ChineseLanguage(Sixth Edition). The information in the parentheses has its broad sense and narrowsense. The broad one includes information in the brace、brackets、parentheses and anglebrackets. The narrow one just means the information in the parentheses. This paper researchon the information in the parentheses in the noun words’ lexicon paraphrase.This paper is designed to study different types of the content、position, and the appliedrules. Besides the types and the rules, I will discuss the possible problems in the use.Hopefully, my research will be valuable for the improvement of the dictionary compilation.The object of my study are noun words with mark of “名”.I find that there are1693noun words’ which have information in the parentheses, and there are1893parentheses withinformation in it during the1693noun words. The different between this two numbers isbecause of the different parentheses in each lexicon paraphrase. Firstly, based on the threetheories which are syntactics、 semantics、 pragmatics, classify the information in theparentheses into four different types; secondly, classify the parentheses in different places inorder to discuss the relation of contents and positions. The use of the parentheses shouldn’t befree, it should based on the relationship between the contents and nouns; thirdly, I will studythe function and the service regulations; Lastly, I will discuss the possible problems about theinformation in the parentheses and the use of the parentheses. On the one hand, some of themcan be avoidable. On the other hand, some of them needs a further discussion.
