Studying Complicated Words Of Tang Dynasty Epitaph During Empress Jing To Empress Wu Period

As one kind of unearthed documents, the epitaph long buried underground and escapedfrom human tampering and damage, so they can provide more true information and matieralfor scientific research than the literatures handed down from ancient times, because of it, thereis high value in the reasearth of the epitaph. During the late Tang dynasty, national power wasfading, and vulgar characters were complicated. Tang dynasty Epitaph, which is the samematerial, can objectively and truly reflect the forms of Chinese chraracters of that period. Atthe same time, it also reflects more content including history, politics, economy, culture,thought, folklore and so on, thus the Tang dynasty epitaph has important significance for thereasearth of modern Chinese characters and related fields.At present, educational circles have made substantial achievement in research of theTang dynasty epitaph, but there are still some mistakes inevitably. Besides, the late Tangdynasty epitaph is short of systematic arrangement and research. So the Tang dynasty epitaphis left broad study space. In this paper, we select the Tang dynasty epitaph during the EmpressJing to Empress Wu period as the research object. On one hand, taking Zhou Shaoliang, ZhaoChao Epitaph Compilation of Tang Dynasty, The Sequel of Epitaph Compilation of TangDynasty and Wu Gang The Addendum of the Entire Tang Dynasty Writings as the primaryreference standard, we contrast the recording texts with the rubbings of epitaph during thisperiod and find the complicated words of the epitaph. Then we take the Philology as a guidyand study the complicated words by analyzing Chinese character component and articlemeaning with dividing them into two categories: not being interpreting and being interpretedin error. On the other hand, we collect and sort the variant form and vulgar characterscomprehensively and systematically, then lay out a characters schedule of the variant form.The achievement of this paper can help to sort and research the Tang dynasty epitaph. Itcan also provide abundant graphemic material for the study of the the Tang dynasty epitaph.In addition, it can contribute to research and analyze the evolution of Chinese characters.
