The phrase class observation has been mentioned in many researches, but thefocuses of the researchers are on the "observed". Some researchers even mixedclassroom observation with the later one. In this paper, the author clearly gives adefinition to classroom observation: classroom is observed by the people who arelisteners as well as the students rather than a lecture giver with a purpose of learningfrom the lecture giver. However, he/she should be more than a student. He/She shouldpay attention to anything in a class, including the teacher, the students, teachingactivities and any other factors. There are two main kinds of class observation: actualclass observation and teaching videos observation. Graduate students who aremajoring in master of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages are train to beteachers, who can be called pre-service teacher as well. Class observation gives animportant platform to those pre-service teachers to closely contact with class teaching,providing a teaching paradigm for them, and helping them with the application ofteaching theory that they’ve learned in practical.The author takes the students who are majoring in Teaching Chinese to OtherLanguage Speakers from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies as an example todo the research. According to the two forms of classroom observation, the authoradapts two ways of collecting daters, respectively, by real class observation andteaching video observation to investigate and analyze the class observation capacity ofmaster of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. The author also givessome advices on how to carry out the classroom observation and how to improve thepre-service teacher’s classroom observation capacity.
