Nowadays the communication and integration is the main trend of globalculture,the documentaries are used as communication medium for the disseminationof Tibetan culture,and play an important role in promoting Tibetan culture and theexchanges between tibetan culture and other cultures.China is a multi-ethnic countrysince ancient times, and the colorful chinese culture is consisit of different ethniccultures. In recent years, there have been lots of excellent documentaries about thehuman’s custom of Ethnic Minority, showed the mysterious ethnic cultures to us.Tibetan is the one of the most ancient nationalities of China, lived in Tibet, a beautifuland miraculously place, which is known as The Roof of The World. With theeconomic and cultural development, more and more people want to know the past andpresent of this charming place. The documentaries that plays a important role in thespread of the Tibetan culture as a communication medium are used by the creators toexplore the beauty, magnificence, and the mystery of Tibet, describe the confusionand change in the intersection of modern and history, deliver the aspirations for thefuture.In this article, we defined the documentaries of Tibetan, reviewed thecomplicated development history of the domestic and international Tibetandocumentaries, and then analyzed the era characteristics and defects in differentstages of development. In order to study the Tibetan culture, such as the architecture,costume, food, geography, painting, religion, wedding and funerals, etc, we haveanalyzed the content of representative Tibetan documentaries and the status of thespread of the Tibetan culture in the context of cross-cultural communication.Moreover, there are some obstacles and even deviations during the process of thecross-cultural communication because of the special political status of Tibet and thedifferent background of culture of the creator. So we discussed the main reason byanalyzing the successful example of Tibetan documentaries, which may show us theway to improve the cross-cultural communication and make our Tibetandocumentaries much better.
