In recent years, the creation of documentaries about Tibet is featured by large-scale,diversification,high end and internationalization. This becomes an important aspect for China in recent years to make remarkable achievement in the creation of mainstream documentaries. This paper mainly selects 6 documentaries—“A Year In Tibet”,“Himalaya: Ladder to Paradise”,“The Third Pole”,“The Galaxy on the Earth”,“Fifty Years of Democratic Reform in Tibet” and “Tibet” as the main research objects between 2008—2015.They are discussed and analyzed from three aspects: reflecting realistic creation as the main aesthetic characteristic, taking creative mainstream commercial documentaries as the feature, and political and historical publicity and educational communication as the purport. On the basis of above three aspects the paper is trying to comment and research documentaries about Tibet in recent years through a better way. This paper has four chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction, which mainly combs and summarizes the existing research literatures;meanwhile, expounds the main research contents, research background, research thoughts, main point of views and innovative points.Chapter 2 mainly studies on “A Year In Tibet” and “Himalaya: Ladder to Paradise”,mainly emphasizing their persistence in the relatively classic way of creation—direct film, thus forming characteristic in ideological contents and appreciation, with relatively good International communication effects.Chapter 3 mainly studies on “The Third Pole” and “The Galaxy on the Earth”,which are mainstream commercial documentaries with strong modern sense and innovativeness. These two films were shot with 4K super-clear technology, achieving superb visual appreciation effect. The narrative approach thereof is quite different from “A Year In Tibet” and “Himalaya: Ladder to Paradise”.And the main characteristic of them is that, they are collaged by different natural landscapes and numerous humanistic stories(selected as much as possible).Though there are no fixed objects for follow-up shooting, the overall contents and styles are consistent, with full freshness, not only achieving good cultural communication effect, but gaining commercial success.Chapter 4 mainly studies on “Fifty Years of Democratic Reform in Tibet” and “Tibet”.The two documentaries have basically identical functional orientation, both of which are aiming at revealing the misleading propaganda of various anti-China forces in attempting to split Tibet and their reactionary nature, emphasizing that,Tibet is a sacred and inalienable part of China.Comparatively speaking,“Fifty Years of Democratic Reform in Tibet” adopts the relatively traditional way of showing pictures plus narrating;while Tibet has introduced construction performance of the presenter on such basis, showing contemporaneity in both content and form, achieving the purpose of edutainment, reached approving educational purpose through communication.
