Currently, the bridge heritage, as an independent heritage category, has not beenunderstanded and researched deeply. And the unique value of bridges heritage does notdraw enough attention, especially those bridge who are still in the use of—living-typebridge heritage, which is hesitate at the edge of the heritage protection range for a longtime with a dilemmasituation. With the further development of the heritage protectionmovements in the world, the bridges heritage natured become an significant researchpoint. This paper focuses on the interpretation of bridge heritage with deeply analysis,especially the living-type bridge heritage. On the basis of the thorough research on thebridge heritage protection system of foreign countries such as Canada to put forward theevaluation system for the living-type bridge heritage.The paper expounds the trend of refining category and increasing content for thebridge heritage to figure out the important statute of caring bridge heritage for theconnotation development of world heritage, cognition for bridge heritage value and thebridge heritage protection. Analysis of current situation of ’quasi heritage’ and theconcepts of ’similar bridge heritage’ illustrates the conception of bridge heritage.’Bridgeheritage’ means the humanity bridge construction activity remains, which can reflect thedifferent stages of the human’s ability for building. They have historical value, scientificvalue and technological value, social value, cultural value and artistic value.Furthermore, this thesis deeply unscrambles characteristics of the the bridge heritage,including the unique value of science and technology, a high degree of publicity, typicalcultural cumulative and the key node attitude.In addition, the author focuses on the important category of the bridge heritage—living-type bridge heritage to extend the deeply analysis of its features and value systemfrom three aspects, including its function, object factors and culture, for expounding thecharacteristics and form of the living-type bridge heritage. And on the basis of theevaluation system of Canada bridge heritage build the Chinese living-type bridge heritageevaluation system to provide the reference for the value identification and protectionmanagement of the living-type bridge heritage.
