Song dynasty was the important stage of Chinese prepositions development, in whichthe changing of prepositions was obvious. Based on grammaticalization theory, this paperstudied on new prepositions of Song dynasty, including the semantics, the emergingsources, the grammaticalization processes and the features. This paper was divided into sixchapters.Firstly, introduce basic situation of Chinese prepositions by describing thegrammaticalization, classification and distinguishment of prepositions.Secondly, summarize and describe the system and characteristics of prepositions inSong dynasty. Among new prepositions, the number of disyllabic prepositions, especiallyform of "X+zhe(着)","X+le(了)", increased in this period. Most prepositions of Songdynasty inherited what from ancient Chinese and Tang and Five dynasties, otherwise somemonosyllabic and disyllabic prepositions presented.Thirdly, introduce semantic functions and basic situations of monosyllabic anddisyllabic prepositions in Song dynasty. It also focused on formation of disyllabicprepositions, including by the combination of two prepositions and prepositions withnon-prepositions.Fourthly, analyse grammaticalization process of new prepositions in Song dynasty. The semantic sources of prepositions in Song dynasty new were verbs or prepositions.New prepositions presented through structural changing, semantic influence, cognitivefactors and reforcement, reanalysis, syntactic structure changing. This chapter mainlyresearched on evolution processes and grammaticalization mechanisms of newprepositions in Song dynasty.
