This thesis discusses the classification of the causative construction Rang, thesyntactic, semantic features and the semantic relationship among theconstructional components. Besides, it studies its syntactic generation and thedifferences between Rang construction and the general pivotal construction. In the introduction, we introduce the research object, meaning, methods andthe data sources.Chapter1summarizes the current studies on traditional grammar, transformational generative grammar, cognitional functional grammar and theteaching grammar as a second language.Chapter2investigates the semantic classification of the Rang construction. Italso classifies the Rang construction into two categories and six subcategories. Moreover, it focuses on describing the syntactic and semantic features of the Rangconstruction with the permission and command, the general abstract causativemeaning and the attributive description meaning. This chapter compares and analyses the semantic features of the differentcategories of Rang construction from the aspects of consciously causative andobjectively causative, reality and virtuality, action and result, controllability anduncontrollability.Chapter3analyses the components of the Rang construction at large, discusses the abstract features of the semantics of Rang. Then it defines Rang as averb by studying the semantic and syntactic characteristics of Rang in detail.Besides, it studies the syntactic constitutes, semantic features and their semanticrelationship of the four components of Rang construction.Chapter4investigates the syntactic generation of Rang construction bycomparing it with general pivotal construction under the background of the causative expression. Our analysis shows that the verb in the general pivotalconstruction possesses three arguments; furthermore, the causative meaning is thestructural meaning of the whole construction. The last chapter is the conclusion; it summarizes the main ideas, conclusionsand the insufficiency in this thesis.
