Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev (1891.4.23-1953.3.5) was a Russiancomposer, pianist and conductor who mastered numerous musical genres and isregarded as one of the major composers of the20th century. Five piano concertos hemade were considered as the20th century’s best-known works, so they are quiteoften performed in different kinds of competitions.In the past years, abundance of researches have been done on Prokofiev’s PianoSonata, their works are comprehensive; Meanwhile, study on Prokofiev’s PianoConcerto No.2&No.3also profits us with fruitful discussion. Nevertheless,Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.1has rarely been appreciated. In this thesis, for thefirst time, we analyzed the performing skills and compared the recording versions indetails: through the composing process and the background of his masterpieces, wecome to know the style of Prokofiev’s works and the skills he used; by analysing theform, texture and orchestration of Concerto No.1, as well as comparing ourperformance experience to other performers different versions, we want to summarizethe skills and various styles in interpreting it. With the discussion on the style ofProkofiev’s concerto, this thesis is aim to provide suggestions to the fellow performersin their interpretation and recreation of Prokofiev’s works.
