The Perceptual Span Of Uygur Undergraduates In Reading Uygur And English:an Eye Movement Study

Perceptual span is a basic problem in the research on reading. Uyghur language is mainly used in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China and Alphabetic writing based on the Arabic text-based, the array of letters is right to left and there are spaces between words. There are extensive studies on the reading perceptual span of the Western phonetic system Because of significant difference with the Chinese and English, It is a relative paucity of the research of Uyghur reading. We interested in the reading perceptual span of Uighur-speaking reader reading Uighur and English, and from the basic question of study on reading. The main purpose of the present study was measuring the reading perceptual span of Uighur-speaking reader reading Uighur and English using eye tracking.Two experiments were conducted in present study:There were21graduate students taking part in Experiment1. It was a single factor within-subject design (independent variable is the window size). It was designed to measure the reading perceptual span of Uighur-speaking reader reading Uighur using eye tracking.There were18graduate students taking part in Experiment2. It was a single factor within-subject design (independent variable is the window size).
