Ren Rongrong is one of the most famous translators of children’s literature inChina and has made great contributions to the importation of foreign children’sliterature and the development of Chinese children’s literature. This thesis conducts acomprehensive study on Ren Rongrong’s art of translation from the approach ofeco-translatology, intending to prove the explanatory force of eco-translatology toRen Rongrong’s translation thoughts and translated works as well as examine thefeasibility of applying eco-translatology into the study of translators’ thoughts andpractices. Through careful research and analysis on Ren Rongrong’s translation works, the author finds that Ren Rongrong’s purpose of translation happens to go with "doingthings with translation" of eco-translatology and his translations are always faithful tothe style of the source texts and succeed in transmitting the original authors’intentions as well as meeting demands and expectations of Chinese children’s readers. With a special view to Ren Rongrong’s selection of translation methods in hisChinese versions of E.B.White’s children’s literature, the thesis analyzes hismulti-dimensional transformations in details. From the linguistic dimension, RenRongrong adepts at using rhythmical expressions, reduplicated and onomatopoeicwords to visualize the characters and plots of children’s stories, which endows histranslations with stronger expressive force and makes his Chinese works more easilyaccepted and understood by children’s readers through simplified sentences. Besides,Ren Rongrong skillfully deals with the cultural factors implied by the source texts andaccurately displays the original authors’ intentions, filling the communicative gapbetween the original authors and the target readers.
