Leo Lionni, the famous20th century painting arti’st, did not begin his childrens bookauthor and illustrator career until he was49, but marked a new epoch in the child’rens bookfield. His work is affected by de Stijl and abstractionism and has traces of modern art. Themesi’n his books have Polyphonic meanings, catering for adults aesthetic taste but keeping it in a’childrens view. Through the study of historical background and the development of LeoLi’onnis art and work, this paper is intended to explore his applauded for talent and hiscontinuous demonstrating humanistic charm.In this paper, the Maverick artist will be scrutinized in the aspect of chromatology. Hisunusual life experience gave Leo Lionni sunshine-like character, which reflected in his workshining like a rainbow. Light in different wavelengths become different colours in people eyes.L,eo Lionnis work is embodied with Polyphonic meanings: children perceive it as simplewisdom, and adults understand it differently. Leo Lionni offered a new form of fable andcreated a multidimensional thinking space for readers.His child’rens book with love and hope, and he guided people to resist evil throughembracing goodness and beauty. No matter his audience are children or adults, illustrationinstitutions or authorities, Leo Lionni held positive values and moral standards.Through illustrations, Leo Lionni presented a visual system.In the system,wo can see howimportant the beauty of wisdom in life.In this sense,he is not only a artist but also athinker,because he is pleased to shoulder the social responsibility of the artist.
