The rapid development of China’s hotel industry is perfectly obvious to all. Ever Sincethe first foreign hotel group-Peninsula Group invested and managed Beijing Jianguo Hotel in1982, waves of international hotel groups have entered China. What followed are thewidespread demands for hotel talents in China’s hotel industry. Higher vocational Englisheducation is the most direct department which train technical and applied talents knowing notonly English as well as hotel management for foreign-related hotel enterprises. However, thephenomenon of focusing too much on theory yet too little on practice still exists in highervocational hotel English teaching where practice and theory are not combined good enough.In view of the vigorous development of the hotel industry and the higher demand for hotelEnglish talents, higher vocational hotel English teachers should actively participate in theEnglish teaching reform, optimize the teaching methods, explore the use of situationalteaching method to inspire students’ interest in English learning, eliminate their fear caused bythe lack of language environment, play to their initiative of learning, thus improving theircomprehensive ability to English using.This thesis adopts literature method, survey method, experimental method and otherresearch methods. From the application status and existing problems of higher vocationalhotel English teaching method, through questionnaire surveys and face-to-face interviews,further understands the present situation of the application of higher vocational hotel Englishteaching method, and analyses the main problems in-depth. On this basis, the writer try to richthe creating methods and improve the teaching steps of situational teaching method in highervocational hotel English teaching, combining with concrete example to elaborate and analyze,and applying this research to the teaching experiment to test its rationality, thus forming a setof systematic and feasible method system of situational teaching method to hotel Englishteaching in higher vocational colleges.This thesis is divided into six parts. The first part is introduction. Expounds the researchbackground, research significance, research review, research methods and research ideas; Thesecond part, the theoretical basis of situational teaching method. Firstly, defines the relatedconcepts, then explains the characteristics of the situational teaching method and elaboratesthe theoretical basis of situational teaching method--second language acquisition theory andsituation cognition theory; The third part, the present situation and the main problems ofsituational teaching method in higher vocational hotel English teaching. The present situationof the application of situational teaching method in higher vocational hotel English teachingand its main problems were analyzed; The fourth part, the application of situational teachingmethod in higher vocational hotel English teaching, the focus of this thesis, which includesfive aspects: the basic principles of the creation of situational teaching method, the ways ofthe creation of situational teaching method, the teaching steps of the creation of situationalteaching method, the considerations of situational teaching method, and the concrete example of situational teaching method applied in higher vocational hotel English teaching; The fifthpart, the situational teaching method is used for the hotel English teaching experiment. Teststhe feasibility and effectiveness of situational teaching method through English teachingexperiments; The sixth part, conclusion. This part presents conclusions, limitations andprospects of this research.
