As a special language, the Chinese neologism arouses scholars’ attention from cognitivelinguistics, translation theory etc. From the perspective of cognitive linguistics, scholarsresearched translation mainly from category, iconicity etc. But those researches fromconceptual integration are immature. The thesis uses conceptual integration theory to explainformation of Chines neologisms, and try to interpret the formation process and translationprocess of Chinese neologism at cognitive level. The conceptual integration theory has strong explanation to the meaning constructionwhich was initiated by cognitive linguist Gills Faucconier. Chinese scholar Sun Ya uses thistheory to apply in the translation research, and constructs a coneptual intgration model in thetranslation process. The model contains source text space, translator space, generic space, target text space. The thesis explores the translation of neologisms, and analyzes translationequivalence of Chinese neologisms according to Sun Ya’s model, and then put forward thetranslation methods. The thesis has four chapters. Chapter one mainly introduces the conceptual integrationmodel and optimality principle. Chapter two defines and classifies the Chinese neologisms. Moreover, it analyzes the formation of neologisms from conceptual integration process andmodel according to some examples. In chapter three, based on conceptual integration theory,it discusses the translation of Chinese neologisms. It uses Sun Ya’s conceptual integrationmodel to discuss the translation of neologisms from four integration results respectively, andputs forward different translation methods according to different integration results. Inchapter four, based on the conceptual integration theory, it analyzes the translationequivalence of Chinese neologisms at linguistic and cognitive levels, and thinks thattranslators can use literal translation and free translation to achieve phonetic equivalence, butthey should find the image-schema of the source text, activate the default values in cognitiveframe, to achieve cognitive equivalence.Conceptual integration model provides instructive effect to the translation of Chineseneologisms, but it has limitations for only discussing four spaces model which lacks researchof other cognitive space. However, from the continuous development of this theory model, it’s predictable that the explanation and instructive power to translation of Chineseneologisms will be strengthened.
