In recent years, as the researches of SLA become deeper, the Acculturation Model is attracting more and more attention from both the English teachers and researchers, especially those in oral English teaching. The basic view of this mode> is that the social environment of cultural values affects individual differences in intelligence, language skills, motivation and senses of anxiety and these individual differences directly affect language learning, leading to differences in the results of the study. In this thesis, the researcher applies the acculturation theory to discuss how to make the English language learners accustom to the culture and improve their communicative skills. Through the analysis of the four factors (concept, situation, social factor, personal factor) of the Acculturation theory, we can find out that the background knowledge of the social culture bears the greatest influence on foreign language study, especially in the oral English teaching. The thesis analyzes the influence of culture in the oral English teaching on the basis of the Acculturation theory and provides some suggestions for oral English teaching. Since the acculturation model promotes the explicit teaching of the conventions of the target discourse community to students, in the daily oral English classes, the teacher should pay more attention to the cultural knowledge in teaching, which is interesting and absorbing. Besides, teachers can also apply the developed multi-media nowadays to show a real English-speaking society to students and even encourage students to do researches on some special cultural phenomenon in English-spoken communities. Only in this way can students improve their communicative capacity of English.Through questionnaires, the author conducts analysis on the students’ oral English capacity in close relationship with Acculturation Model, and describes how to consciously and gradually introduce the social and cultural background knowledge of English-spoken countries to the students, in order to enable students to understand the differences between the Eastern and Western cultures, improve their exotic cultural awareness, and enhance students’ ability to communicate with people from Western cultural backgrounds.
