The apprenticeship of observation describes the phenomenon whereby student teachersarrive for their training courses having spent thousands of hours as schoolchildren observing andevaluating professionals in action. When the student teachers who have had quite many years’Chinese classes when they were in class as students start there teaching life, sometimes they mayignore the differences between Chinese classes for foreigners and Chinese classes for nativespeakers, put out of the memory they have got about the teachers’ teaching theories, retreat to thetraditional teaching prospect, and use the same methods as their own teachers’ to deal with theclassroom management. It is this phenomenon that bring a lot of problems to Chinese classes forforeigners. This thesis is to compare the novice teachers’ Chinese classes for foreigners andChinese classes for native Speakers, finding the influence the novice teacher get from the yearsof Chinese classes management, analyzing the problems from the cases we found, and makingsome personal suggestions based on the Apprentice Observation, to help the novice Chineseteachers about their classroom management.This thesis is composed of five chapters. In the first chapter, the author introduces thebackground and meaning of this discourse, research methods and literature review which arefrom three aspects: the previous literature about the management of Chinese class to the nativespeakers, the Chinese class to the speakers of other languages, and the Apprentice Observation.The second chapter is the theoretical basis, talking about the theoretical foundation about theApprentice Observation. Chapter three compared the classroom management between novices’Chinese classes for foreigners and Chinese classes for native speakers according to the cases.Chapter four is research findings and teaching recommendations. The last chapter is theconclusion of this thesis.
