The research thesis intends to explore the application issues of the recording mode in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries. The thesis categorizes the recording modes into three types:Poetic Mode, Reality Recording Mode and New Documentary Mode. The Poetic Mode in the thesis is the result of the combination of the Greisens style and the traditional Chinese poetic culture, which is based on commentary and explanatory words in structure, with a strong literary tendency, focusing on aestheticism and artistic conception in picture. In addition, it is subject-oriented in creation, which prefers the degree to which the documentary "arranges for reality". While the Reality Recording Mode has its core as "recording the reality", which means the tendency to "describe the reality", It combines the techniques for the creation of truth film, direct film, self-reflecting style film, whose largest feature is to concern the individual and record its process through some recording means such as interviews, actual sound and full-length shot, etc. The last point is that the New Documentary Mode in the thesis can be considered as "the imagination for the reality". It originates from the West, and made great breakthrough from the reality of the traditional documentary, which applies the techniques such as "fiction" and "reoccurrence", pursuing of the creation of story narration and the exciting audio-visual enjoymentThis thesis can be divided into three parts:introduction, body part and conclusion. In the first part, introduction, the problem is put forward at the very beginning, and then China’s human geography documentaries is to be defined, explaining its connotation and features based on which further analysis of the creation value. In the end, it describes the evolvement of the recording mode in China’s human geography documentaries.Next comes the main body. In Chapter One, the connotation of Poetic Mode is presented, followed by the analysis of the reasons why this mode was first applied in the creation of documentary for Chinese humanity and geography, and the problems brought by this mode existing in the creation of documentary for Chinese humanity and geography is discussed from the three dimensions as commentary, picture, and music. In the documentary for humanity and geography guided by the Poetic Mode, commentary is the center of narration, which has strong subjective emotion, cultural atmosphere, and rich poetic settings. In picture, it focuses on poetic and aesthetic feelings, which can be explained as the pursuit of beauty for form, image, and artistic conception. As background setting for commentary and picture, music bears characteristics of lyric, exaggerating and beauty in style. Those characteristics in commentary, picture and music are the products of the creation subjects keenly to creation objects. At last, the thesis points out some problems in the application of "Poetic Mode" to China’s human geography documentaries, as well as author’s thoughts and suggestion for improvement.The connotation of the Reality Recording Mode is presented in the beginning in Chapter two, and the reasons for the application of this mode in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries. Different from the Poetic Mode characterized by romantic writing full of poetic feelings, the Reality Recording Mode pays more attention to the recording of the objective reality. This chapter mainly discusses the application of the Reality Recording Mode in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries, with the main features as "human geography; recording the stories of people behind the landscape; recording the process; the unity of time and space; the mind traveling; experiencing the exciting wandering", and so on. The last section focuses on the analysis on the limitation of the application of this mode in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries.In Chapter Three, the connotation of New Documentary Mode is explained at first, and then the reasons why the New Documentary Mode is applied in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries are presented, mainly explained from the three dimensions application in human geography documentaries as "new fiction","new narration", and "new audio-visual way". Based on "reality" and "reoccurrence" discussed by the documentary theorists, the last section examines some problems that should be paid attention to in the application of this mode in the creation of China’s human geography documentaries.In the last part, conclusion, tells that each of the three record modes has its own merits and demerits, so that there is only the issue of appropriateness or not. As for choosing which recording mode for application in human geography documentaries depends on the needs of the age and society, the preference of the creation subject and some features of creation objects, and so on. In specific creating process, one can absorb other recording mode’s merits in the condition of certain recording mode, so as to serve better for the creation of human geography documentaries.
