The backlight behind the Buddhist statues contains a rich and splendid culture, especially in The Northern Wei Dynasty in China, people began to build the Grottoes statues, and it developed fast, lots of greats of art appeared. However, when we look at the gorgeous backlight, we may do not understand the intrinsic meaning of the constructor was trying to convey, lots of people were just attracted by the brilliant structure from the view of aesthetic and only know the history was began in Ancient Indian at the first time. There are multitudes of book were written about Buddhist Grotto Sculpture Art, but we cannot find the exact answer of where the backlight of Buddhist came from originally, or we may consider that people did not pay enough attention of research in this area. As the thirty-two percent of an old flame with Buddha, the backlight is extremely significant to the Buddhist culture, it is necessary for us to distinguish the origins of the backlight clearly. In order to understand the meaning of the backlight behind the florid decoration, we have to observe and study the culture from the documentary records and images. This paper summarizes the distribution of the Vairocana Buddha, which located at the Fengxian Temple-the biggest cave in Longmen Grottoes. Initially, I will analyze the basic explanation of backlight from the Buddhist Sutra and Books and understanding of connotation within text form. Then, I will discuss the manifestation of the backlight from the earliest Buddhist art images, by looking at the traditional native statues of ancient India, Stupas Buddhist image and a series of research came out after the Kusana period, for instance, Gandhara Art, Mathura art and Gupta dynasty light pattern. Back to our early Grotto backlight of Buddhist history, the development of backlight was relatively clear shown in some documentary records, and many researchers were trying to find out the meaning of backlight in India, which was introduced into China after the traditional inheritance and development of India. We can specifically addressed to the Fengxian Temple main statue backlight on the former administration backlight can be tracked. As a peak of the China’s feudal society, Tang Dynasty developed political, economic and cultural faster than other dynasty, Empress Wu Zetian planed to build the Vairocana Buddha carefully, which represents the highest artistic achievements of that period. In specific research and analysis, we will involve the backlight style, theme, measurement, connotation and many other aspects. The style of main statues of Vairocana Buddha was well planed by Empress Wu Zetian, the light parts of head is the Stone Triad Images, which we can make an assumption that the light part of head is Maitreya Triad Image.
