In the cave art of Buddhism,the lord statue is at the center of the cave,which is the most important part of people's belief and observation.It concentrates the main spiritual sustenance and expectations of the prayers.The study of the main statue is undoubtedly the most important aspect in the studying of the cave art.The statues of Tang Dynasty accounted for a large proportion and importance in the Bingling temple grottoes,but most of the previous studies by experts and scholars focused on early caves and murals,mainly in the 169 caves of Western Qin Dynasty,and it is not enough for Tang Dynasty caves and murals.Based on this,this article focuses on a thorough and in-depth analysis of the artistic characteristics of Tang Dynasty statues,in which the author has selected the most representative and period-specific caves for in-depth and detailed research,so as to reveal the artistic characteristics of the main statue in the Tang Dynasty.This article looked into the history of the formation of the Bingling temple grottoes in detail.Based on the overall situation of the caves,and take four stages to verify and summarize the stage characteristics of the cave statues,and analyzes the artistic characteristics of the main statue.The 171 st Maitreya buddha is selected to summarize the four basic artistic characteristics of the Tang Dynasty Buddha statue.At the same time,the opinions of the construction year and the documentary records is put forward through comparison and analysis,and the specific reasons for the analysis and reasoning is also explained.In the typical analysis,from the perspectives of three different postures of buddha statues,sitting buddha statue and standing buddha statue,the most representative 28 th,29th and 64 th statues are determined respectively.through the analysis and horizontal comparison,this article summarizes the specific image characteristics and artistic expression of the three poses.In particular,through the study of the 64 th statue,the viewpoint of "three beauty" of the standing buddha statue in the caves of the Tang Dynasty is put forward,and its artistic characteristics is preliminarily summarized.On the basis of typical analysis,the four major artistic characteristics of the Tang Dynasty statues in the Bingling Temple grottoes are analyzed from an aesthetic perspective so the historical rules for the formation of Tang Dynasty cave statues are basically revealed as well as its essence of art.
