As one of the most significant features of the Nuo operas, is the main performing prop in portraying the personality and facial expression of the characters. Different from other sculpture and mask art, the Nuo Masks plays a significant role in the spirit worship and religion belief in early days. Guizhou is known for its rich resource of Nuo Masks. Focusing on the Nuo Masks in this area, this article studies the moral indicated by their modeling features and colour from an artistic perspective. The three phases, including the Cuotaiji Phase, the Nuotangxi Phase and the Dixi Phase, have been experienced during the development of the Nuo Opera in Guizhou. During this time, the Nuo gradually transformed from a sacrifice ceremony to a drama art, hence the change of the Nuo Masks, in which the heritage of religious phycology and artistic creation is accumulated. The modeling and colour features of the Nuo Masks explicates the understanding towards the nature, the society and the religion of different nationalities, and has brought immense inspiration and enlightenment to artists and researchers.
