From print media to online media, news reading has always been the main approach for people to know important events happening within their vision, or any place in the rest of the world. As people from different areas, they have different cultural backgrounds and different concepts. Besides, different media also have different points of view on same news, furthermore, language itself is a boundary limiting the spread of news. Therefore, news translation becomes a fundamental part in both translation and news media areas. The author joined an online translation group and had the opportunity to translate news for The Economist. In order to explore suitable methods for news translation, this report is based on the author’s own experience of translation for the Economist. With the help of Skopos Theory and Nida’s Function Equivalence Theory, the author studied and explored some specific problems appearing in news translation.During the whole process of news translation, the translators’ background knowledge, bilingual ability, and other language-related capabilities are all the key factors for the success of news translation. Combined with the author’s personal understanding, experience and confusion, the author aims to improve the author’s own ability in translation, and meanwhile, contributes to the limited power to learners who are interested in news translation.
