A Report On E-C Translating Scientific And Technological News In The Magazine Of The Economist

Guided by text typology and communi cative translation proposed by Peter Newmark,this report analyzes the author's E-C sci-tech news translation project of the magazine The Economist.The author analyzes difficulties in the tran slation process from lexical,syntactic levels and figures of speech as well as gives correspond ing solutions.In the process of translating scien tific and technological proper nouns and terms,it is necessary to add annotations to clear reading barriers for target readers,select proper m eanings of polysem ies in context and delete function words.While translating long sentences,the author should divide and reorder them to cater for the Chinese expression habits.As for fi gures of speech frequently used in s ci-tech news titles in The Economist,the sense of rhythm in alliteration and rhyme can be recreated by using Chinese four-character phrase or proverbs;original puns and parodies should be borrowed and replaced in order to recreate the charm of news titles.The findings of this report are expected to shed lights on sci-tech news translation in The Economist and provide plausible solutions to improving the quality of sci-tech news translation.
