| The Economist is an important channel for Chinese readers to learn about the global economic development,which contains a large number of professional terms and knowledge background.However,in reality,most Chinese readers have different English proficiency,so they have many obstacles in reading economic news and obtaining article content.Therefore,translating the financial news in The Economist,and discussing the problems encountered in the translation process and the solutions to them will not only help summarize the strategies and methods of Chinese translation of financial English news,but also help promote international economic and cultural exchange.In this translation practice report,the author selects 13 financial English news articles from The Economist as the translation text,and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory is used to guide the entire translation process.This report mainly adopts the case analysis method and the literature review method.On the basis of reading a lot of literature related to financial news translation and Functional Equivalence Theory,the author understands the main content of the Functional Equivalence Theory and the current situation of its application,and proposes translation strategies at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels and selects typical cases for analysis.Through practice,it is found that different translation strategies can be used in financial news to achieve functional equivalence.Through practice,it is found that when encountering different problems,financial news translation can adopt different translation strategies to achieve functional equivalence.Specific translation strategies include literal translation,additions,omissions,translation of passive sentences,translation of long sentence,discourse cohesion and coherence.Through this translation practice task,it is proved that the Functional Equivalence Theory can play a practical guiding role in the translation of financial English news in the improvement of translation quality of news texts.At the end of this report,the author summarizes some experiences in the translation process.It is hoped that this translation practice report can provide some experience and reference for translators engaged in news translation. |
