The species of Chinese winged chimera and their evolution from Spring and Autumn Period to Six Dynasties are discussed in the dissertation by typology, after it’s appearance in Spring and Autumn Period. First, the collected images of winged chimera are divided into six categories: dragon, bird-headed animal, tiger/lion, Fantastic Animals with Horn, herbivores and others based on their era and excavated sites. The overall shape, posture, head, angle and wings, background and other details, materials and functions are described and juxtaposed also. Then the statistical analysis was performed on the geographical distribution of data, and the styles of the wing were drawn for categorical analysis and filled into maps to figure out the migration routes and evolution sequence according to the era and excavated sites. At last, according to the historical documents about the society, economy, secular ideas, aesthetics, cultural blend at that time, important effects on species and evolution of winged chimera in ancient China are discussed.
