A Comparative Study On Chinese And Vietnamese Kinship Terms

The kinship is a common practice in interpersonal relationships in human society. The Kinship Terms are used by virtually every tribe and society in the world. The importance of the kinship can never be over emphasized as such this study, embarked on a systematic comparative analysis based on a comprehensive summary of previous studies on Chinese and Vietnamese relatives’appellation. The results from this study will be helpful to the citizens of both countries and even outsiders willing to learn both languages, to better understand the rich Chinese and Vietnamese language use of relatives’appellation.The study is divided into Four Chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, explaining the concept of relatives and Kinship Terms, defined boundaries in the Han and Vietnamese Kinship Terms and gives an overview of the study with a description of the meaning and scope of the study. Chapter Ⅱ-Explained the contrast in the elements and format in the composition of the Chinese and Vietnamese Kinship Terms. Chapter Ⅲ-Compared the relatives of the Chinese and Vietnamese language kinship system, including comparison of paternal blood, maternal blood, married spouses, relatives’appellation system, and examined the similarities and differences of the two languages relatives’ kinship system from the point of view of the Chinese to Vietnamese. Chapter Ⅳ Based on the investigation, the study explored some of the varied phenomenon in the Chinese and Vietnamese conditions of use of the Kinship Terms.
