From the classics such as "An Orphan Rescues His Grandpa" and "Goddess" at the beginning of the last century, to the pinnacles such as "Yellow Earth" and "Farewell to My Concubine" since reform and opening up, the mainland literary film prosperous development in the Chinese movie history of100years. However, with the rapid development of market economy, the movie box office has become one of the important standards to measure the success of the film, the literary film into a "best game no one played" embarrassing situation. But the mainland literary films in the new century such as the director Chen Kaige’s "Mei Lanfang" in2008,the director Zhang Yimou’s "Under the Hawthorn Tree" in2010and the director Teng Huatao’s "love is not blind" in2011, have not only created a literary film box office "Broken billion yuan" myth in the Chinese movie history, but also broke the "best game no one played" embarrassing situation, and also led to a boom of academic research the Mainland literary film creation status and creative characteristics.In this thesis, efforts of the famous directors and the talent productions of the new directors which award-winning the Golden Rooster Awards, Hundred Flowers Awards, Huabiao Award in China and Cannes, Berlin, Tokyo and other famous Film Festival in foreign, as well as the literary films that May not be perfect in art but remarkable in Mainland in the new century work as the research object. The research includes four angles which are the creative phenomenon, the rich aesthetic content, and the unique artistic techniques and the cause of creative characteristics.First, by introducing the different creative pursuit of the mainland representative directors such as the freehand of Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige’s films, the realism of Wang Xiaoshuai and Jia Zhangke’s films, and the creative strategy of the combination of artistry and commercial, this thesis simply analyses the creation phenomenon of the mainland literary films in the new century.On the basic, this thesis analyses the rich aesthetic content and the unique artistic techniques of the Mainland literary films in detail. Among them, the aesthetic content is mainly about subjects and themes. The subject’s diversification mainly in three points:persist and innovation of the love theme, particular concern of the family ethics subject, and the vivid display of the small characters; themes to dig deep mainly in two points:exposes the complexity of human nature and the real expression of humane care. The unique artistic techniques are primarily in three aspects: personalized of the film’s screen and color, the diversity of the film’s music and the film’s plot structure.
