Along with the reform and open-up policy in China, the Mainland-HK film co-production has grown for more than 20 years. With the guidance of film history, the study shows how the Mainland-HK film co-production making integrated with their social, political, economic, cultural and art environments. Within this period of time, the film industry in China becomes mature and both Hong Kong and Mainland China benefit from the advantage of trans-regional co-operation and cultural exchange.The thesis starts with the dilemmas the Mainland-HK film co-production are facing and analyzes the texts of the movies. It takes the example of several representative cooperative films from 1997 to 2007 and discussed the forms and styles. The author thought that the dilemma attributes to the differences of ideology and media, cultural backgrounds between Hong Kong and Mainland China. The thesis finally poses some suggestions on the value of the Chinese film.
