The Cognitive Study Of Modern Chinese Individual Quantifiers

Quantifier is the most characteristic in the Chinese vocabulary, and the individualquantifiers have become gradually a research object to the scholars as one of the mostimportant parts. With the development of cognitive linguistics, using the cognitive theoriesstudy the ontology of Chinese also becomes the focus of research. This paper is on basis ofthe Cognitive Linguistic theory, analyzing several representative modern Chinese individualquantifiers. From this view, the writer thinks that the collocation of the individual measurewords and nouns has the cognitive reasons, not just according to the "authorized by customs".And this paper also explores the unique thinking habits and the cognitive modes of the Hannationality that are hidden behind, revealing the cognitive reasons of collocation which arebetween individual quantifiers and nouns. Using this way not only can protect the purity ofthe Chinese language, but also can be helpful to the learner who learn the individualquantifiers of Chinese languageThis paper has six parts. The first one is the introduction, mainly introducing the currentresearch situation, the significance of this topic, the research scope, the methods and thecorpus sources.The second part is an overview of related research. This part introduces the nameresearch of quantifier, the theory of "authorized by customs" and its impact. This part mainlyexpounds the course and the value of quantifier name. At the same time, this part also sayssomething about the quantifiers’ research and its limitations under the theory of "authorized by customs".The third part is about the basic research for the cognitive theory of individualquantifiers. This part is divided into "quantity" of cognition, language and cognition, categoryand category, metaphor and metonymy, image schema, iconicity of six parts. And they are thebasic theory of Cognitive Linguistic theory, which are used in this paper.The fourth part is the definition and development of individual quantifiers. It mainlyincludes the demarcation, evolution and causation of the individual quantifiers. Demarcationand evolution are the ontology study of individual quantifiers; causation is from the structureof language and the cognitive thought of Han nationality to explore the causes of individualquantifiers.The fifth part is about the case studies of Chinese individual quantifiers using the cognitiveperspective. This part selects four individual quantifiers: ge, tiao, ba, ben as the main study objects, which are characteristics, representative and commonly used. And studying them one by one, the article compares"tiao" to "gen", and analyzes their difference which are from the ontology study of the evolution ofwords’ meanings and the interpretation of the cognitive perspective.The sixth part is the epilogue part. This section summarized the whole paper. And from three aspectsillustrate the current problems of research and development direction the future, including. the cognitivemechanism of in-depth individual quantifiers, the dialect research and the cognitive reasons of collocationwhich is between the individual measure words and nouns.
