‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’ is an essays written by Kamo no Chomei in thelate Heian.‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’ by Kamo no Chomei,‘Zhen Cao Zi’ by SeiShonagon and ‘Tu Ran Cao’by Yoshida Kenko are called ‘Three Pieces ofJade’(san bi) in the Japanese history. The view of the impermanence in ‘Story ofBuddhist Abbot’, is a major feature in the history of Japanese literature.‘Story ofBuddhist Abbot’ was written in1212by Kamo no Chomei (1155~1216).Itdescribed the woes that the author met in youth, the frustrated life, and theleisure life after seclusion. It is an excellent opus of the confession literature inthe area of text, content and concept.The essays began with water, blister, and the capricious life of other personsto stress the theme of the view of impermanence. Then it listed a lot of realityexamples to expound the view of impermanence in ‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’. Atthe same time, comparing with the view of impermanence of ‘Tu Ran Cao’, theauthor analyzed the root cause of the view of impermanence. This thesis tries tomake further exploration of the view of impermanence in ‘Story of BuddhistAbbot’, through Kamo no Chomei’s attitude of live and die.This article consists of five parts. The first part consists of the researchpurpose, the leading research and the innovation points. The second part explorethe impermanence outlook by studying the background and the character of theauthor. The third part starts to discuss the impermanence of ‘Story of BuddhistAbbot’, by introducing the view of Japanese impermanence. Also it wouldattempt to learn more about the view of life and death in Kamo no Chomei’s eyesby the impermanence of Buddhism. The fourth is to the chase, trying to explorethe cause of the impermanence of ‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’. It would analysethe content and the contrast with ‘Tu Ran Cao’, to demonstrate the view ofimpermanence. The fifth part demonstrates that Chinese culture had a profound impact on Kamo no Chomei by narrating the relationship with ‘Story of BuddhistAbbot’ and Chinese opus. Kamo no Chomei learned the essence of Chineseculture. Then he created the new style–the mix of Japanese and Chinese. He hadprofound influence on art creation, development, extension and brilliance ofJapanese literature.On the argument, the theme of ‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’ is ‘the view ofimpermanence’,‘the view of Buddhism’ and ‘the thought of reclusion’. But thisarticle starts from the content of ‘Story of Buddhist Abbot’. And it discusses thepoint with some related books, alone with the point of view of the well-knownscholars. All these may increase the credibility of the article.
