A Study On Japanese [V+V] Compound Verbs

Compound verbs are frequently printed on newspaper or magazine in Japan.According to the verb-using investment of Morita Yoshiyuki in1991, about40percentage verbs are compounds verbs which become necessary day by day inJapanese’s daily life.The features of compounds verbs are: plenty, highly generic and expressing thecomplete meaning which the simple verbs can not. It is not an easy thing for studentswhen they learning the compound rules between the former verbs and later verbs.Just like Morita says, in our daily studying, the verbs which on the text books arenormally simple verbs. Even though the learners can put these simple verbs in usevery proficiently, they are hard to grasp the meaning of the compound verbs whichare compounded with simple verbs.Compound verbs can be divided into four type according to part of speech: verb+verb compound verbs; noun+verb compound verbs; adjective/adverbial+verbcompound verbs. Among the three types, verb+verb compound verbs is the mostfrequent type, no matter the quantity or quality. Base on the above situation, thispaper will take this plenty, complicated type of compounds verb as study subject.The previous study on compound verbs are: system, meaning and compare. Thesystem study are mainly in national language, Japanese and linguistics; Nationallanguage and Japanese take Teramura as representative, it is emphasized in studyingthe meaning of former verb and later verb. Compound verbs are divided into manytypes under the condition if they alternate into another meaning. The linguistic studyis representative by Kageyama, it is based on the classify study of syntacticcompound verb and lexicon compound verbs. The meaningful study is representativeby Himeno, his research is mainly later verb meaning. According to the comparestudying, this paper is emphasizing Japanese and Korean.Based on the previous study, this paper make a research and analysis on [verb+verb] compound verbs. The main point is to get to know the essence and features ofthis type of compound verbs. So that this kind of compound verbs can be dividedinto coordinate relationship, courses, measures, status and subject declarative or complement. The former and later verbs are analyzed according to the previousprinciple, and make a summary of their properties. So that, it can provide morepractice value in the next day studying on [V+V] compound verbs.
