Difference Research Of Japanese And Chinese Nonverbal Communication

For mankind there are two kinds of communication, that is, verbal andnonverbal communication, which consist an integral whole. In daily communication,people tend to only pay attention to verbal communication, ignoring the extra need ofdepending on nonverbal signs. Up to now, the research of nonverbal communicationis mainly focused in behavioral norms of nonverbal communication in thosecountries where English is used more often. The main study is focused in the basicknowledge of nonverbal communication, introduction of the early western theory andthe study and contrast of nonverbal communications in Asia and the west, whilesystematic research of differences between Japanese and Chinese nonverbalcommunications is not common.The thesis applies the relevant theories and research methods of contrastivelinguistics, and conducts a synchronic and bidirectional contrastive study of Chineseand Japanese nonverbal communication. The materials for analysis and contrast arethose examples collected from nonverbal practical use and some relevant classicworks. Take the most basic, familiar and important nonverbal symbols that are usedin Chinese and Japanese daily communication as the objects of research. The paralleland bidirectional study is carried out in four categories of nonverbal communication,namely body language, paralanguage, object language and environment language.The whole thesis mainly consists of four parts. The first part expounds thecontents from three aspects. Firstly, put up the topic and state mainly the researchsignificance and purpose of this article. Secondly, introduce the previous studies onnonverbal communication in home and abroad. Finally, discuss the standpoint andinnovation point of this paper.The second part discusses the definition, classification, characteristics andfunctions of nonverbal communication and the differences between verbalcommunication and nonverbal communication.In the third part is the specific contrastive study of Chinese and Japanesenonverbal communication, which is from four aspects of body language and paralanguage (nonverbal behaviors), object language and environment language(nonverbal means).The forth part mainly expounds the conclusion of the thesis. The partsummarizes the main contents and analyzes the causes hidden behind differences andsimilarities.This paper lists a great deal of examples and analyses typical cases. Descriptionof similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese nonverbalcommunication is combined with the contrastive study of Chinese and Japanesesociety and culture. Explain the causes for similarity and differences, and proposesome instructive suggestions for communication. The purpose is to make peoplerealize the importance of nonverbal communication and to stimulate interests indifference research of Chinese and Japanese nonverbal communication, so toimprove people’s ability of cross-cultural communication.
