As China’s national strength and international status increases, China hasexpanded its cooperation with other countries. Thus, interpreters’ role becomes moreand more important. As one of them I was fortunately given the chance to participatein the seminar for young educators from developing countries jointly hosted by theMinistry of Commerce and Northeast Normal University (NENU) to work as aconsecutive interpreter for Professor Liu Haimin, a vice president of NENU.This thesis is a retrospective study of the transcript based on his three-hourspeech at the lecture. In the retrospective analysis I summarized my affirmative anddeficient aspects respectively in the performance, and then analyzed the causes of theerrors that I encountered in the task. The purpose of this retrospective study aims tooffer more experience for later high quality interpreting practices. This thesis consists five parts. Part one introduced the background of thetraining seminar and my necessary preparations before it. Part two introduced theoverview of the source text from linguistic and stylistic point of view. Part three isthe detailed analysis of my interpreting performance. The affirmative aspects anddefects are above all listed, following by seeking out causes of deficiencies bypresenting concrete examples in the lecture. Part four gave some correspondingsuggestions to solve the defects and major difficulties encountered in the interpretingprocess for future improvement. The fifth part is a conclusion of the whole thesis.
