"Costume film" represents the early historical films, so this thesis takes "costume film" as an entry point to sort out the early Chinese films’ commercialization process (1905-1945). As a genre film, costume film’s coming up, developing, features are used to analyze the influence that different society, economic, ideology, artistic expression bring on it. It reflects costume film’s important function in saving china through culture for about50years in the Old China, as well as its own properties. This thesis talks about costume film’s development through its period features and historical perspective. When it comes to the period features of costume film, this thesis analyzes the hidden reasons of its coming up, booming or die-out, combining with theoretical perspectives of business type film’s industrialization development, to portray a picture of costume film’s development in early Chinese films.
