In recent years, children’s picture books abroad have been enjoyed great popularity and a huge number of outstanding works have been introduced to China. In sites for child reading, parent-child reading, storytelling and reading instruction, people are wandering in the sea of picture books, which attract an increasing number of translators go to the field of children’s picture works. Excellent translated works exert a subtle influence on children’s horizon, imagination, verbal and thinking skills as well as aesthetic capability. Instead, crappy and shoddy works may have adverse effect on children readers for a lifetime. Therefore, we need to draw full attention to the quality of both local and translated works for children. However, in today’s mainland China, there are a few of scholars who are specialized in doing researches on picture book translation, so there is a great gap in theoretical construction compared with foreign countries. Therefore, on how to better translate picture books, this thesis chooses the translation on The New Adventures of Curious George and focuses on measures taken in dealing with the language and picture information under the guidance of Mr. Ren Rongrong’s three translation principles. Besides, an analysis and corresponding solutions to problem like picture without words translation and salutation translation will also be discussed. Finally, it is a conclusion to this thesis.People tend to think that the wording and phrasing in children’s picture book is easy to understand, so the translation is simple for anyone who can speak foreign languages, yet the experience of three months makes the author realize that the seemingly simple translation on picture book is tough and challenging. Fascinating or childish language is not the standard for picture book translation, without a through understanding on cognitive characteristics of readers and correct translation methods as guidance, the translation work cannot be processed. Moreover, a translator is obliged to infer the creating intention of the original author, reconstructing comprehensively the content and style of original works. In short, in addition to a good theoretical foundation, literacy and interpreting drawing ability, a translator has to thoroughly understand children’s psychological status in order to better serve them.
