With the accelerating pace of social development, job stress in the workplace is increasingly serious. Self-control demands(SCDs) is a kind of job stress coming from individual’s requirements of their own, and perceptions of organizational politics(POP) is a kind of job stress stemming from individual’s perception about external working environment, both of which can lead to individual’s emotional and behavior reaction. Based on the strength model of self-control and affective events theory (AET), we did a research about the mechanism how perceptions of organizational politics and self-control demands working on policemen’s emotional exhaustion and withdrawal behavior as well as the moderating effect of trait self-control in the perspective of energy depletion. In this study, we took292policemen as subjects and did questionnaire survey. By the analysis of valid data and structural equation modeling, we obtained the conclusions as follows:(1) There are some differences in the demographic variables about self-control demands, the organization of political perception, trait self-control, emotional exhaustion and withdrawal behavior.(2) Instead of predicting policemen’s emotional exhaustion and withdrawal behavior by self-control demands alone, the interaction of self-control demands and perceptions of organizational politics can positively predict the two outcome variables.(3) Perceptions of organizational politics is significantly positively correlated to policemen’s emotional exhaustion and withdrawal behavior and it explains the variance of two outcome variables.(4)Trait self-control has significant moderating effects on the relationship between self-control demands and emotional exhaustion, but the moderating effects on the relationship between self-control demands and withdrawal behavior is not significant. An individual with higher levels of trait self-control experiences lower level of emotional exhaustion caused by the self-control demands.
