In a traditional society there is a close connection between religion and medical treatment. Taoism, as a result of paying attention to a tradition on literati keeping in good health, has exerted a great influence on our traditional treatment. In Chinese folk society, there existed a statement that nine doctors originated from ten Taoism followers which has been circulating. After Song Dynasty, Confucianism doctors gradually replaced the Taoism doctors, however, various medical and health measures from Taoism has spread widely. These methods have widely spread in the late Ming Dynasty. In this essay it will reveal the relationship between the Taoism and literati keeping in good health from the masterpiece of Zun Sheng Ba Jian.From the background of politics, economy and culture in the late Ming Dynasty, because of the darkness of political and the prosperity of commodity economy, the scholars gradually gave up the set of "preserving the natural science of Cheng Zhu, and destroying human desires" and began to pursue and realize their own value. Taoism of inaction manners just met their psychological state. The relationship between intellectuals and Taoism became closer than before. The content of works on regiment of health for scholars mostly derived from the classics of Taoism or dictated by Taoist priests. The essay will expound its every chapter and find out the relationship between it and health preserving by graphs.In addition to inheriting Taoism regimen and theory, literati health also presented many new characteristics in the late Ming Dynasty. From the masterpiece of Zun Sheng Ba Jian we can see that in the late Ming Dynasty health always originated from their own situation and also practice of health care in daily life. For most people, health is not just simple text writing and summary, literati will apply health theory into specific practice. In the mid and late Ming Dynasty, it is by literati’s works that made culture of health preserving popularized.
