Poetry is the essence of language, and imagery is the soul of poetry. In classicalChinese poetry translation, image reproduction is the key to conveying the beauty inmeaning. Based on the theory of traditional Chinese imagery and combined withpoetry research findings of Tang poetry from the perspective of images, this paperconducts a preliminary and systematic study on the translatability of images, thetranslation principles and strategies of Tang poetry on nostalgic theme. The papergoes a step further to study style contrast in English translation of Tang poetry onnostalgic theme. The paper also quotes translation theory of “Three Principles ofBeauty” proposed by Professor Xu Yuanchong: Poetry translation should fullyembody importance and necessity of ‘beautifying the art and creating excellence’. Thepaper attempts to summarize successful experience of English translation of Tangpoetry on theme of nostalgia and make its contribution to the diversified developmentof translation cause in China. |
