Crag Color is named from the extended traditional mineral color, and this method of definition according to texture aspect seems to be a new rising painting, but in essence it is consistent to traditional Chinese painting series. Generally speaking, Crag Color comes down in a same strain with tradition Chinese painting and it is distinctive for its own. Crag Color has great aesthetic value for its special aesthetic perception of texture and the abundant expression of chromaticness. Undoubtedly, Crag Color bring us a new direction and possibility of pondering for being reforming Chinese realistic painting.China contemporary artist Hu Mingzhe applies crag color to create a brand-new horizon for painting, since then the academic world has a wider perception for the crag color texture. The original charm of the crag color and incomparable academic quality make Hu Mingzhe professor received extensive attention and affirmation from academia.In the contemporary context, the significance of crag color painting is breaking the old framework of the traditional Chinese painting, expanding the material concept, creating a new visual aesthetic space. However, the Freehand Brushwork of the crag color painting, that is belong to Oriental aesthetics, is rarely mentioned by scholars. Little imagine, using various materials directly express the meaning of the painting, called "material language", is just a new way of artistic language.This article taking Hu Mingzhe crag color painting as an example, discusses the Freehand Brushwork for the artistic concept and material innovations of his works. Hu Mingzhe, originally a traditional painting painters, pays attention to thread, writing style and tone, since the early1990s, and committed to the research and exploration of crag painting. She has a profound and unique comprehension on crag color material. Experiencing the metamorphosis of the artistic thought from "self" to "no ego" to "nonego", forming cosmology from the witness of natural materials, this raise the understanding of the material to a new height. At the same time, as a female artist, her feelings pouring into the material is affording for thought. By the influence of the traditional Chinese aesthetic concepts, her crag color painting has strong oriental art for the intangible, profound characters of the works. This article trims the trajectory of Hu Mingzhe crag color painting and interprets the Freehand Brushwork of the painting in the context of contemporary, as well as the unique aesthetic characters of the materials. Finally eliciting the great stage of the Hu Mingzhe crag color painting, and leading by the cosmology, step into the art of pure material and concept.
