Research On Artifact Lexicon Of Excavated Warring States Bamboos Strip Manuscripts From The Chu Region

Excavated Warring States Bamboos Strip Manuscripts from the Chu Region is the important material to study the artifact lexicon. Comparing with the handed-down documents, they reflect the features better. Nowadays, lexicon research on Chu bamboo Strip Manuscripts is slower than the research on deciphering characters. The study of identifying the font style, determining the word meaning and other related studies have been started from the second half of the twentieth century, but the rearch on lexis have not been in depth and systematically. The study on semantic words only is seldom. This thesis is based on fourteen sets of discovered bamboo strips, including Baoshan Guodian, Wangshan(two sets), Jiudian(two sets), Caojiagang, the tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng, Changtaiguan, Geling, Wulipai, Yangtianhu, Yangjiawan and Xiyangpo, mainly based on divination, document, day book and removal policy. Classifing artifact words into cooking vessel words, drinking vessel words, water implement words, weapon words, accessory words, musical instrument words, desk words and so on, then make detailed study on artifact lexis of excavated Warring States Bamboos Strip Manuscripts from the Chu Region.There are five chapters in this thesis.The first chapter is prolegomenon. I will present the discovery of Bamboos Strip Manuscripts from the Chu Region and related concepts, discuss research status and research meaning. Then put forward the thesis’s subject, method and relevant materials illustration.The second chapter is about the artifact words’ classification and interpretation. I will classify these words into cooking vessel words, drinking vessel words, water implement words, weapon words, accessory words, musical instrument words, desk words and so on, forming different subsystems. This chapter mainly talks about the controversial words in order to clear and definite the artifact words’classification and interpretation.The third chapter is about the artifact words’ feature description. I will describe the artifact words’ feature, analyzing monosyllabic and polysyllable words’symantic structure and word-formation. I use monosyllabic morphemes to analyze monosyllabic words, and use syllable structure and morphological structure to analyze polysyllable words.The forth chapter is about the artifact words’ etymology. From forming reason to forming process, and then formation mechanism, we will see the origin of artifact words.The fifth chapter is about the artifact words’ reflection of cultural connotations. Though the artifact words’ we can see the diversity of Chu culture, and it can reveal material culture, system culture and spiritual culture of Warring States of Chu region.Through the analysis above, I try to describe the overall appearance of artifact lexicon of excavated Warring States bamboos strip manuscripts from the Chu Region, and try to form lexical system. I divide artifact words according to the criterion of meaning, syntax nature, rhetoric and real objects, there are76monosyllabic words and189polysyllable words, the number of polysyllable words is more than monosyllabic words. Monosyllabic words can form word families because of monosyllabic morphemes. Coordinate compound words and partial-official compound words form polysyllable words. This period foundry industry of Chu is flourishing, and the artifact words is also very abundant.
