A Research On The Hierarchical Lexicalization Of "Suo X(所X)"

In Modern Chinese,"Suo X" is a common structure. While, currently only several lexical items of "Suo X" are included in authoritative dictionary, since these "Suo X" structures are regarded as lexical items, such as "Suo You","Suo Yi", and "Suo wei" Actually there are numerous "Suo X" structures are frequently used in Chinese, but they are still not accepted as lexical items authoritatively, such as "Suo Shuo" and "Suo Kan" due to the factors such as syntactical performance, semantic environment. Meanwhile, there are other kinds of "Suo X" sturctures, such as "Suo Zhi Dao", in which "Suo" is more like a sign of NP instead of a semantic component of a vocabulary. By collecting various "Suo X" structures from Linguistic corpus and Internet data, we’ve made a deep study of "Suo X". According to our research,"Suo X" is of a dynamic and flexible structure which also have multiple levels in lexicalization. Considering factors such as syntactical function, semantical characteristic, we classify "Suo X" into three types: Lexicalization "Suo X", Phrase-word "Suo X", and Trans-layer "Suo X".From the perspectives of Lexicalization Study of "Suo X", there are two ways of researching, one of which is diachronic study, the other one is synchronic study. It is undeniable that Lexicalization Theory has been prosperously developed in diachronic perspective in the past, while synchronic study is almost an unattached area, especially when referring to the investigations of "Suo X" structure. In this article, we would combine diachronic study and synchronic study together to figure out the characteristics of lexical multiple levels in lexicalization of "Suo X".In the part of Introduction, we will explain the significance of our researching, and conclude the theories about "Suo" and "Suo X" of predecessors. During the process of research, we will analyze and describe the corpus of "Suo X" comprehensively, which would be included in the second part. In the second part, it is also of vital importance to summarize the lexical process of "Suo X", and deeply search for the mechanism and the motivation of "Suo X" structures’lexicalization. What is more, considering the complex context of "Suo X", we also notice that, restricted by rhythm and pace in Chinese,"Suo X" structures are influenced by four-character phrase. So, in the third part, we will also discuss how the four-character phrase influences "Suo X" in this article.
