As the old saying goes, time slides away quietly no matter it’s day or night. Timeflies, so does the old world. Changes happen in our times and information, thus alter ourconcepts and designs. The design of conceptual books is influenced by modern designand conveys the designer’s new thoughts and expressions. Conceptual design focuses onquestioning the traditional books and try to improve the aesthetic functions and culturaltaste through a new perspective, new ideas, new design methods. Books, as the anotherinterpretation of the world and the heart, should not just be a book, but also a CD, acontainer even a work of art. At the same time, the conceptual books are components ofbook binding, also evolved from book binding. Differences lay where the design ofconceptual books adopts more conceptual thinkings and makes more attempts to makebooks more content,meaningful and attractive.There are three parts in this thesis. The first section consisted of chapter one andchapter two describes the background, purpose and significance of the conceptual booksand research status of conceptual books, which all do foreshadowing for followingchapter. The second section includes the third, fourth and fifth chapter, and introducesconceptual books’ innovation from concepts,forms and materials, and is the focal point.The third section consists of chapters six and seven, and introduces modern technology,especially the influence which e-books impact on traditional books. Also this part pointsout the direction of development, and its leading role in future design. The innovation ofthis thesis can be found in the introduction of the conceptual books’ innovation point,such as the forms of innovation. The thesis points out that innovative point takingadvantage of overall innovation, and how to innovate through binding style, as well asorganizational structures.
