Research On The Comparison Of The Main Foreign And Domestic Translation Tests And Its Enlightments To The Chinese Translation Tests

With China’s status arising in the international arena, the international communication and exchanges between China and other countries are increasing frequently. Translation, as an ancient human activity, has become a topic hotter than before and has developed rapidly. More and more people have been engaging in translation. Translation itself as a specialized discipline has been set up in many colleges and universities. As there are more and more translation exams, many English learners are eager to get more information about the related exams. There has been enough research on translation tests mostly focusing on the exam purpose, objectives and approaches to deal with them. However, even if the related contrastive analysis of foreign and domestic translation tests has important significance for the improvement of our national translation certification, there is few studies on this aspect.This paper systematically studies and analyzes various issues of translation tests Firstly, the relevant researches of translation tests have been reviewed. Secondly, the information of translation tests is made between foreign translation tests (NAATI and DipTrans) and domestic translation tests(CATTI and NAETI), followed by the establishments of institution, exam content, certificate level, scoring criteria and other aspects of foreign and domestic translation tests, revealing difference and analyzing characteristics of them. Finally, this paper focuses on the comparative analysis of test content, test format and scoring criteria and proposes recommendations for improvement to the domestic translation tests by pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of the foreign and domestic translation tests respectively.By comparing different kinds of translation certification exams, the author hope that designers of translation test could use the mature experience of other countries and establish translation exams with much higher reliability, more scientific measure. Some supplement to the translation researches are supposed to be given, and more and more translation lovers are hoped to get more information about translation exams through this paper.
