Equivalent Reproduction Of Characters In Fictions Through Dialogue Translation

Considering the significance of dialogues in reflecting and individualizing the personality of the characters, authors tend to polish the speech of each speaker to ensure that a vivid image can be presented. When it comes to the fiction translation, the translators should not only transmit the meaning of the words but also depict the unique images of the characters. The research methodology adopted in this thesis is case study based on the translation of The Dusantes. First of all, I introduces the "Equivalent effect" Theory of Chinese scholar Jin Di as my guiding principle to examine the quality of the translation. In addition, I also take the "three principles" of reproducing individual speakers presented by Huang Fenbao to discuss the ways of keeping and depicting the original images when analyzing the translation examples of words, expressions and sentences.
