This dissertation, based on Qi Baishi’s works on vegetables and fruit painting,attempts to compare and contrast different masters on the subject matter of vegetablesand fruits and analyze the major differences between Qi Baishi’s paintings with thoseof the traditional paintings of birds and flowers. The dissertation also sums up thepractical experience of each master and forecasts the future tendency of itsdevelopment. The unique feature of this is that it provides an overview of the wholehistorical background in this field and the prediction is made by means of solidevidence and logic analysis. The author made an adventurous prediction and analysisabout the development of vegetables and fruits theme painting based abovecircumstance. In conclusion, the painting development will be more and more meticulous, and the Grassroots Art will enter into artistic palace. What’s more, thetheme of vegetables and fruits painting will become an independent art.
